Professional Bio
Rafael represents clients in domestic and international arbitration, mediation, and negotiation proceedings on complex disputes regarding construction contracts, M&A transactions, commercial partnerships, real estate, banking, oil & gas, energy, among others. Regularly sits as arbitrator in Brazil. He is the former Deputy Counsel at the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration, in Paris.
Rafael Alves is a Professor of arbitration at FGV São Paulo Law School (FGV DIREITO SP). He is also a Board Member of the CPR Institute and Officer of the Brazilian Arbitration Committee (CBAr). He holds a Ph.D, Master of Laws and Bachelor of Laws from University of São Paulo (USP) and also an LL.M. from New York University (NYU), where he was an Arthur T. Vanderbilt Scholar. He regularly sits as arbitrator.
Rafael is the author of several books: “A inadmissibilidade das medidas antiarbitragem no direito brasileiro”, “Árbitro e Direito: o julgamento do mérito na Arbitragem”, “The Brazilian Arbitration Act: A Case Law Guide” (with Andre Abbud and Daniel Levy, Kluwer Wolters, 2019), among other national and international
publications.
