Professional Bio

John Bickerman is an internationally recognized neutral, specializing in high-value commercial, complex, multi-party insurance, environmental, and public policy disputes. In the last thirty years, he has logged over 30,000 hours and has resolved more than three billion dollars in claims in more than thirty-five states. More than three dozen Fortune 100 companies, one dozen states, and fifteen American Indian tribes have retained Mr. Bickerman to assist them in high-value disputes. He has arbitrated major disputes, including construction claims at the Hudson Yards, and the Navy's Annapolis campus. He has facilitated the resolution of major natural resource and environmental disputes between the Federal government, tribes and states throughout the United States, including four major water allocation or water diversion conflicts in the West, including the successful resolution of the historic Colorado River Cooperative Agreement in Colorado. He has taught seminars at Cornell University for a dozen years has also been an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University Law Center. Mr. Bickerman was selected by his peers as one of The Best Lawyers in America has been included in the Superlawyers listing for Washington, DC for more than a decade. He is a past Chair of the American Bar Association’s, Section on Dispute Resolution. He received BS and MS degrees from Cornell University and is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, magna cum laude. He clerked for United States District Court Judge William B. Bryant in the federal court in the District of Columbian. As a practicing economist, he also has excellent quantitative and statistical skills that enable him to assess economic and scientific data and perform allocations based on complex criteria.
