Steven Bierman

STEVEN M. BIERMAN, founder of Bierman ADR LLC, is an arbitrator, mediator, and dispute resolution advisor based in New York and previously was a partner at Sidley Austin LLP, where he led or co-led the New York Litigation Group for 25 years and co-led Sidley’s global Complex Commercial Litigation and Disputes practice. Steve is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb), accredited as mediator by the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution, and serves on CPR’s Panel of Distinguished Neutrals (arbitrator, mediator, and dispute prevention), the AAA’s National Commercial Roster of Arbitrators and Mediators, the AAA Consumer Panel, and Mediation Panels of the U.S. District Courts for the S.D.N.Y. and E.D.N.Y., and New York state courts.

Steve is Co-Chair of CPR’s Mediation Committee, served as Chair of the ABA’s Advanced Mediation and Advocacy Skills Institute in 2023 and 2024, is Co-Chair of the ABA Dispute Resolution Section's Mediation Committee, and is Co-Editor-in-Chief of The New York Dispute Resolution Lawyer. Steve serves on the Mediator Advisory Committee of the U.S. District Court of the Southern District of New York and on the ADR Advisory Council of the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of New York.

Steve is a recipient of the 2024 Eighth Annual James Duane Award, presented by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York for exemplary service to the Court as mediator and contributions to the rule of law. He is an elected Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and has been recognized multiple times by Benchmark Litigation as a U.S. and a N.Y. Commercial Litigation Star, Best Lawyers in America, and The Legal 500 in Commercial Litigation.

Steve received his J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center, where he was an Editor of the Georgetown Law Journal, and received his B.S. Econ degree in Economics, with honors, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
