1. What do you find to be a beneficial aspect of CPR?

I appreciate having the opportunity to connect with practitioners from different backgrounds and industries through the Y-ADR Committee and learning about their career paths in the field of ADR.

2. What is one piece of advice you would give to somebody who wanted to pursue a career in ADR?

Connecting with practitioners in the field has helped me gain insight on different career opportunities in ADR. Keeping an eye out for opportunities such as joining committees has also helped me broaden my exposure and build connections in this field.

3. At what point did you realize that this career choice was best for you?

I previously primarily practiced litigation in Hong Kong, but was always interested in international arbitration. I appreciate the cultural diversity of clients and arbitrators, and that you can obtain a resolution in a dispute relatively expeditiously. When I moved to New York, I took that opportunity to focus my practice on international arbitration. I took classes on international arbitration during my LL.M. studies and enjoyed engaging in the subject matter, which helped me realize that this was the practice area I wanted to pursue.

4. What personal characteristics are most beneficial to you in your career?

Being curious about the subject matter and the different issues clients face within their industries. It is also important to be detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger picture and overall strategy, as well as work effectively with your team.

5. What goal(s) do you hope to accomplish in the near future?

I would like to continue to work on complex international arbitration matters, further develop my expertise in this area and expand my network with ADR practitioners.

6. What is your favorite ADR process to practice?

My practice has so far been focused primarily on international arbitration. What I find interesting and what keeps me engaged is the variety of issues that arise in the course of a dispute and working together as a team to resolve those issues—even better when we help clients win!
