Kenneth M. Roberts Received James P. Groton Award for Outstanding Leadership in Dispute Prevention
New York, NY - The International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution (CPR Institute), a global non-profit organization that helps others manage conflict so that they might better pursue their purpose, is pleased to announce Kenneth M. Roberts is the recipient of the James P. Groton Award for Outstanding Leadership in Dispute Prevention for 2024.
The James P. Groton Award for Outstanding Leadership in Dispute Prevention recognizes a person or organization who has contributed significantly to the development and/or practice of dispute prevention. CPR established the award after James P. Groton, an early pioneer in and advocate for dispute prevention, was recognized for his lifetime achievements in March 2022.
Roberts is a Partner at Venable LLP, where he is chair of the Construction Law Group. In his practice, he helps teams keep large capital projects on budget and on schedule without litigation by resolving issues daily. He has also sat on and chaired numerous dispute resolution boards involving projects ranging in size up to $2 billion. Roberts has authored the standard forms for service and commercial contracts utilized by numerous companies. And he teaches and lectures on ADR, mediation, and dispute resolution boards at Northwestern University and several law schools.
“I am pleased to recognize Ken’s many accomplishments in resolving business conflicts before they grow into full-blown disputes. Because of his efforts, untold numbers of large projects were able to reach completion on time and under budget.” said Serena Lee, CPR President and CEO. “Ken applies the principals and theories of dispute prevention to his work, reaping the successes that result when teams are focused on the purpose at hand, without the distraction and unnecessary costs of disputes.”
"I am honored to receive the James P. Groton Award for Outstanding Leadership in Dispute Prevention,” Roberts said. “Jim was a true pioneer in dispute prevention. CPR has always been the premier organization devoted to teaching Industry how to problem solve and avoid disputes. My entire career has been devoted to helping parties make problems smaller, not larger. Dispute avoidance has been the cornerstone of my practice and the driver behind my professional success. I am deeply honored to receive an Award named after Jim Groton and given by an organization that I deeply believe in.”
